Medical Rehabilitation Counseling

Medical Rehabilitation counseling generally refers to helping those with injuries or disabilities with their personal and professional goals. Patients that have been diagnosed with a chronic or long-term condition, such as arthritis, cancer, or fibromyalgia, may look for long term solutions to difficulties faced. However, sometimes patients face a short-term challenge due to an auto accident, workers compensation incident, or a sports injury. No matter the setback or challenge, our therapists are empathetic towards each person’s unique disabilities, and can work on a multidisciplinary team with medical, legal, and other professionals to best help you achieve your goals.

Alzheimer’s & Dementia

Chances are your loved one was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease and/or Dementia, and your relationship and role has significantly changed. As with most medical conditions, early intervention is the key to forming a treatment plan with highest possibility of success. Our providers have experience working in and managing other providers in explaining the different stages of these diseases, information on memory loss, common behaviors associated. In addition, Pure Counseling PLLC has partnerships with care facilities and other important resources in the Dallas Metroplex, and other areas in the state of Texas.

Chronic Illness & Pain

Arthritis, cancer, diabetes, heart disease… There are so many medical diseases and illnesses that last for a long time. Medical treatments tend to be long-term, and counseling can be helpful in learning to cope and adapt to these physical changes. The biopsychosocial therapy approach focuses on the biological and physical symptoms, psychological experience, and social support to tailor the counseling process to each person’s health situation, personality, family and culture. Our providers have advanced training and experience to work on a multidisciplinary team with your doctors, physical therapists, nurse case managers, and other medical professionals.

Fibromyalgia

If you suffer from fibromyalgia, then you know its characteristics, including pain, tenderness, and stiffness that manifests throughout the body (often most severely in the joints). The classic “dull ache” can feel like deep muscular pain and may be associated with tingling or weakness in the limbs. You may also experience extreme sensitivity to pressure and pain, most particularly in several “tender points” located throughout the body. These “tender points” may feel particularly painful when touched with firm pressure, and their presence is a primary element in a diagnosis of fibromyalgia. Sleep disruption, fatigue and depression are also hallmarks of the syndrome. Education is paramount to successfully managing your symptoms. Our providers received specialized training in recognizing symptoms, and utilize emotional support or other therapies to have the most impact on improving the quality of your life.

Injury & Disability

Physical injuries can change your life in many ways, which may bring feelings of worthlessness, loneliness, frustration, and other difficult emotions. There may be changes in your relationships with family members and friends, and perhaps adjustments to work, school, or home life. Life after any injury can be overwhelming for the survivor as well as family and caregivers.

Traumatic Brain Injury

A Mild Traumatic Brain Injury (MTBI) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) can occur as a result of damage to the brain due to an injury or accident. Whether consciousness was lost or not, the impact of force and shaking the head leaves the brain in a different state. Symptoms tend to vary, but the most common include anxiety, confusion, depression, excessive fatigue, irritability, lack of coordination, memory loss, and impaired cognitive function. Studies show the brain has the best chance to heal between 6 months and 2 years after the accident. This is the best time for our highly trained providers to work with your medical team in determining your treatment goals. As no two cases are alike, you may be given psychological assessments to help determine the most helpful next steps unique to your symptoms.
